welcome to an interactive experiment exploring:

(1) the relationship between intentionally designed creative experiences and social + collective well-being, and,

(2) cultural reclamation in the face of erasure and the aesthetic repackaging of cultural practices through capitalism and orientalism

centered around the game of mahjong

the MAHJ organizes and hosts in-person mahjong games and social gatherings as part of this ongoing study

“What impact do creative experiences in shared spaces have on social connection and mental and social well-being at the community level?”

This question is explored through a series of live, in-person mahjong gatherings and community-based events hosted by the MAHJ.
